I talked about crime in Hawaii and how it relates to what you are familiar with. There was a article in the Tribune-Herald recently with the title,"Crime declines in Puna"
By JASON ARMSTRONG. If you get the chance to read this article, it is very informative and shows how much the area is changing. It stated,"The Big Island's fastest-growing district has experienced a double-digit drop in crime." Wow that is great. I work in the area and have noticed fewer questionable activities all over town. What was a get in and get out town, now has a stay and shop atmosphere in most of the areas. The ever expanding shopping includes a Longs Drugs, KFC, Burger King, and I even believe we have a "puna style" museum. I love the small shops , a spa, couple of yoga and tattoo shops as well. My favorite bumper sticker says it. "Why Be Normal" Puna Hawaii. A short 20 min. drive gets you to Home Depot, Target, Wal Mart, and the whole Mall thing. Just in case you are tired of the beach, snorkeling, steam vents and volcanoes. Also stated in the article, "The area that includes Hawaiian Paradise Park and Orchidland Estates experienced the biggest decline in the number of reported burglaries since last year. According to the police data, 46 burglaries were reported in those communities, down from 102 during the first eight months of last year." All of the main subdivisions have active community associations and web sites where other data can be found and if you are moving here, you should give them a call. I was on the board at the Nanawale Community Association, and they have one of the friendliest and most helpful offices around. Got questions? Give me a call or send a note in the contact me area. I will be glad to talk story on almost anything. David
