I fell in Love with Kapoho at first sight. I like my water activities safe. I also get bored easy so a place with a variety of landscapes above and below water is important. Kapoho has it all.
I love it so much that I had to live there someday so yes I have property there and good lord willing, I will be calling it home in the future. This unusually large collection of tidepools and spring fed pools stretches almost a mile down the coast and extend up to 200 yards out into the ocean. However, the feature that makes this site most interesting is the fact that some of the pools are heated -- volcanically heated! Many locals have incorporated some of the smaller pools into their property to use as swimming pools and "hot" tubs. The warm, brackish water is usually very calm, relaxing, and rarely crowded A wide variety of fish are also attracted to the area so snorkeling is easy and fascinating. My sister on her first visit and first dip, said, "Oh my god. It is like living in a aquarium". The fish are fantastic. Especially since the Vacationland area has been under the protection of a marine conservation district, the fish and sea turtles are huge and friendly.

What a busy day and rewarding. I am working on focusing and writing down things I have gratitude for.
Work, Love, Life, Hawaii, Family, Health and yes Health. I have my hip issues and a lot of other things but it could be a lot worse so I am grateful for the health that I do have. I am also working on my awareness of doors that open and close, and how they have purpose. Not the physical ones but the invisible ones. Those magical moments when I have a feeling or intuition about something. We all have them but if I am not looking or living in the Now, they pass me by. And oops I miss something. Something that can change my life or change the way I look at life. So I am trying to be still and listen. Momma said, " You know when you know, but if you don't know then look out ". She was trying to tell me to listen and look for the doors that close and the new ones that open and to pay attention. Mother nature does not always send a reminder or e-mail, so just saying.. Today I found out a way to never pay a cell phone bill again. Ask me how and I will show you. I also may have found a great way to make an incredible living. Don't get me wrong. Real Estate and Nursing are passions I have, but if there is a way to help others, never pay another cell phone bill, and make a living or extra money, I may be having one of those magical moments. Be still and listen. That is what I am going to do and if you want to know what I know. ASK ME. Have a wonderful day, smile, and help out someone in need. David. Well it is getting close and a few things have happened.
I met my Surgeon. She is a tiny and very nice doctor with the ability to listen. YES, finally a Orthopedic surgeon who listens and cares about what the patient wants. Not that some others on the island do not. I just have not met them yet. Now she was firm, and matter of fact about what I need and what she thinks. I realized that when she greeted me with a FIRM handshake. The grip does not match the rest of her. Although that will come in handy when she is crafting her work on me with a hammer, screwdriver, saw, etc. I will be awake during the procedure. That was my request. I have assisted with a lot of these procedures and told her I may come in handy in case she needs me to hold something. I told her I am having a lot of pain. She says that a lot of her patients go home on Tylenol, so I am ready to get this done. She said I will be limited in what I can do for about 3 - 4 weeks. I will also be in the hospital in Waimea for 3 days. I tried to get her to let me go home next day but she said no. Not sure if my partner paid her to keep me or not. He gets a vacation from me so hope he enjoys before I get home cause I have doctors orders to not do anything..got it. Wait on me. All about me. Just kidding. I forgot to ask, How long before I can get in the Ocean? Next time I will take a list. Write and ask anything.. I will answer and would love to talk story. Live Aloha Out There and if you need a Nurse, Realtor, Minister, CPR, or just someone to listen. Hit me up. David / Kawika When people call me and ask about services like water and sewer, I tell them the truth and they usually pause, and go WHAT? I tell them it is all natural and a beautiful thing.
Rainwater catchment is an age-old method of catching rain from a surface (generally, a rooftop) and transporting it through a conveyance system (usually gutters and downspouts) to a storage container. This water can be used for domestic supplies, agriculture, landscape, water features (like fountains), public supply, or storm runoff control. In Hawaii, most rainwater catchments are used for domestic water supply and agriculture. The process of harvesting the rain is experiencing a resurgence in the U.S. and throughout the world as global warming and population growth threaten our limited fresh-water supplies. With todays filtration systems and UV, you just can not beat mother nature. There are guidelines in the links section of this website that will help you understand it further. When they ask where does the water come from, I say " Over the Rainbow " as a matter of fact. And then there is the POO. We have a variety of systems here and one is the pool. Just a big hole in the ground. There are limitations based on size of the lot and how close it is to the ocean. When to close for comfort of the county to protect the neighbor and our beautiful ocean, a septic system is required. The pool never needs pumped because we have this natural lava that is full of holes and a natural filtration system built right in. Just right and made by mother nature for when mother nature calls, or POO visits. Number 2 goes without saying much accept if you are on catchment and not much rain to fill the tank, well you may want to ask what the house rules are for number 2. When water is scarce then you do not want to flush good water down too frequently. Sometimes behind the bush outside is a conservative approach. Go Green on the Green, number 2 I mean. but do be shy and not in front of aunties eye. Be kind everybody. David Deweese R B RN Owner Aloha coast Realty and a couple other things. 808-896-5623 Just a bit about how I ended up here and as a realtor in Hawaii.
About my journey. I moved here in 2000 after a brief flight over the lava flow. I was the national sales manager for a medical supply company, (am also a RN ). One time in Hawaii I took the helecoptor flight over the volcano and was hooked. We sold everything and moved here. Ask me about how to make the move. I can help. I went to work as a nurse and then one day the sales bug bit me and the incredible journey began. Now I spend my time giving Real Estate tours to all that will go. Show them all of the secret spots, the best deals, and the vast differences in climates and vegitation only minuites apart. When I am not doing that, I work as every business owner does 24/7 and love it. I still practice nursing and a few other, " Well a Lot of other" interest. Helping others makes my day a lot better. I live here with my partner of 17 years, three dogs, two cats, and a large salt water aquarium. We have lived all over east hawaii and can tell you all the good and bad of areas. I run and work with the best team of agents in hawaii and we have two offices. Hilo, and Pahoa and soon to Maui. Where ever you want to go, we got you covered.. I love working with all buyers and sellers. I represent them in very different ways and never prejudge or try to send them in a area they do not want. Service above self is my motto. From homes, to condos, small lots, farms, organic and even off grid, finding what the clients needs are and making it work for them. Give me your ear, bring the family and lets get you headed in the direction that is right for you. All areas are covered from the tide pools of Kapoho, Puna Beach Palasades, black sand beaches of Kehena. Great prices on acerage in Hawaiian Paradise Park and Leilani. Hilo and Puna sunrises and Kona sunsets to Kohala. Waiamea up country as well. Lets get out there and play. Let me show you how to live your moment in Hawaii.. Need a reference? After this long in business I have a lot. I also am a member of the BBB and that is a reference in itself. Contact me and I will get you what you need. I talked about crime in Hawaii and how it relates to what you are familiar with. There was a article in the Tribune-Herald recently with the title,"Crime declines in Puna"
By JASON ARMSTRONG. If you get the chance to read this article, it is very informative and shows how much the area is changing. It stated,"The Big Island's fastest-growing district has experienced a double-digit drop in crime." Wow that is great. I work in the area and have noticed fewer questionable activities all over town. What was a get in and get out town, now has a stay and shop atmosphere in most of the areas. The ever expanding shopping includes a Longs Drugs, KFC, Burger King, and I even believe we have a "puna style" museum. I love the small shops , a spa, couple of yoga and tattoo shops as well. My favorite bumper sticker says it. "Why Be Normal" Puna Hawaii. A short 20 min. drive gets you to Home Depot, Target, Wal Mart, and the whole Mall thing. Just in case you are tired of the beach, snorkeling, steam vents and volcanoes. Also stated in the article, "The area that includes Hawaiian Paradise Park and Orchidland Estates experienced the biggest decline in the number of reported burglaries since last year. According to the police data, 46 burglaries were reported in those communities, down from 102 during the first eight months of last year." All of the main subdivisions have active community associations and web sites where other data can be found and if you are moving here, you should give them a call. I was on the board at the Nanawale Community Association, and they have one of the friendliest and most helpful offices around. Got questions? Give me a call or send a note in the contact me area. I will be glad to talk story on almost anything. David ← Kapoho Tide Pools Get Funds Kapoho Fish Pond Proposal Approved → High, Hot, and Happening… Posted on May 4, 2008 and updated 9/13/2011 by David Deweese High, Hot , and Happening!!! I am so looking at the future of the Big Island as the place to be, buy, live, and explore. High snow covered mountains, hot lava flows, arts and culture. Checking out recent rags that are predicting things to turn around in our real estate market as soon as August of this year. I am inspired and love living and working here.
I want to talk to everyone about the things like VOG, Surfing, Fishing, Snorkling, catchment, property values, you name it and lets talk about it. Real estate prices are right again. I live in Hilo, and also own property in Kapoho. For some basic and specific info on those places, fell free to visit my website Aloha Coast Realty When I bought my first home here on Wainaku St in Hilo in 2000, everyone said BAD AREA….Crime was the reason. They had a drive by shooting six years ago I was told. I am from Birmingham Alabama, and a drive by was weekly. Crime is relative and this is the safest place I have ever been. No drive by has happend here since I moved here. Same for Nanawale in the Puna area. Lived there three years. A great place to live and a wonderful value. Great Practical homes under 150K, and some lots for under 6k. Close to Hot Ponds, Tide Pools, and short drive to active lava flows that excite me and was the main drive for me to move here. Lets talk and if you come, I will take you on a real estate tour of some of the most incredible places to be, play, buy, and see.. The primary of this blog is The Big Island, so hit me up and I will tell you everything I know. Tell me the things that are of interest and I will get that on this blog. So jump in, the water is fine, and lets have some fun. Like the Dry side? I was in Kona today and it was incredible. Blue sky and turquoise ocean. Prices are so low there as well. Every price point from the luxury home to the condo or vacant land. Let me show you how affordable Hawaii is today. David Deweese RN, R B, Owner Aloha Coast Realty, LLC Island Ohana Nursing 808CARE Hilo, HI Some have said " Oh we go off island for that", " Not at that Hospital", " Not on the Big Island ". Well here I go and will let you know. I am a RN and a real estate Broker. I have lived here for 11 years and have heard it all, about health care on the island, lava flows, bad areas, catchment, and where does the poo go? So I am going to start sharing.
I have worked at Hilo Medical Center and witnessed a lot of good and bad. I also have work all over the mainland and it is no different there, unless you have a lot of money and can get the luxury treatment. So I need a Hip replaced. Some are saying, " You are not getting it done here are you? " and the answer is yes. I just met with a very informed Surgeon in Waimea and she is going to give me my new hip on Sept 26th. I will talk about it in a very open way and let you know exactly how each step of the process goes and my recommendation after.
